Roy and Alice Holubar started Holubar Mountaineering in Boulder in 1946 and pioneered the use of nylon in down sleeping bags. Holubar built and sold camping and climbing equipment and opened retail stores in Colorado and around the country, growing to a chain of 10 at one point. The Holubars sold the company in 1968, and it expanded and was sold to Johnson Wax in the mid-70s, who eventually sold it to The North Face in 1981.
